Frequently Asked Questions!

Do I need a partner?

No! Heart & Sole Dance makes it easy for singles or couples to take lessons.  Private lessons are arranged appropriately and group classes rotate partners to allow everyone to learn good lead-follow technique.

 What should I wear?

For class or dancing, nice casual clothing is appropriate. In consideration of your partners, men should not wear tank tops or sleeveless shirts, and ladies should avoid backless dresses.  You will need shoes that stay on your feet, and which will pivot on the dance floor.  With experience, you will be able to choose shoes that are neither too sticky or slick.  Beach style sandals are inappropriate.  Cowboy boots and other heavy or large shoes are discouraged, since they limit your movement.

Be sure to shower, wear deodorant, and brush your teeth before dancing...you will be in close contact with others!

How long will it take me to learn to dance?

Dancing is simple and fun and well worth whatever time and energy you have to put into it!  Learning to dance is like learning a new language.  You can choose to learn a few catch phrases, or really master the language!

Heart & Sole Dance structures it's lessons so that 2 months of classes will provide you with a solid foundation of basics (and an itch to learn more).

 Which class(es) should I take?

Beginners and those new to dance should take the beginner or basics classes.

Beginner classes are for beginners and teach dances from the ground up.  They are designed so that students learn all the basic moves and technique.  Intermediate dancers benefit from reviewing these classes.

Intermediate classes are designed for those that know the basics and want to learn more advanced patterns, technique and footwork variations.
